Kerala Transport Development Finance Corporation Limited (KTDFC) was registered under the Companies Act on 27/02/1991 and started commercial business on 16/03/1992. The Corporation is a Non-Banking Financial Company registered under the Reserve Bank of India under the category Non Deposit-Systemically Important [ND-SI]. The main objects as per the Memorandum of Association of the Company are the financing of transport vehicles, workshops and machinery, financial arrangements for acquisition of transport vehicles and machinery, assist transport or other undertakings, agencies, firms, whether incorporated or not, situated within the State of Kerala, with long, medium or short terms loans for any purpose whatsoever or subscribe to their share capital, equity or preference debentures or assist in other ways within the restrictions imposed by Reserve Bank of India from time to time. In addition to its usual lending schemes to KSRTC and others, the Company widened its scope of activities by undertaking BOT/BOOT projects for KSRTC and Government departments. 100% of the share capital is held by Government of Kerala.
The Corporation has five branches at Thiruvananthapuram, Thiruvalla, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kozhikode.
Activities of the Company
The activities of KTDFC vary from disbursing of loans under various schemes to the implementation of huge infrastructural projects on BOT basis. The main activities of the Company can be classified as follows:
1. Loans
KTDFC has the following main categories of loans:
- Loans to KSRTC
- House Loans
- Vehicle Loans
- Personal Loans
2. Fixed Deposits
The repayment of the fixed deposits including interest payable thereon by KTDFC is fully guaranteed by the Government of Kerala with specified limits which is presently at Rs. 4500 Crores (G.O (M.s) No: 20/2018/Tran dated 23-03-2018). The Fixed Deposits are being collected through 3 Schemes with attractive interest rates
- PIPS-M (Periodic Interest Scheme-Monthly)
- PIPS-Q (Periodic Interest Scheme- Quarterly) and
- MMS (Money Multiplier Scheme)
3. BOT Projects
The first BOT project of KTDFC was the construction of a Commercial cum Office Complex for Motor Vehicles Department at Vazhuthacaud, Thiruvananthapuram (Trans Towers) and the same was successfully completed in 2006. Thereafter, KTDFC undertook the construction of Bus Terminal cum Shopping Complexes for KSRTC on BOT basis at (1) Angamaly, (2) Thiruvananthapuram, (3) Thiruvalla and (4) Kozhikode. The Bus Terminal Complex at Angamaly was completed in 2011. Similarly, the Bus Terminal Complex at Thiruvananthapuram was commissioned in February, 2014 and that of Kozhikode & Thiruvalla were commissioned in June, 2015.
The Renovation of Tagore Theatre into a modern Cultural Complex, as a State-of-the-art venue of Cultural & Entertainment Activities has also been successfully completed by KTDFC during the year 2015.
